Specially developed LED lighting for pig houses

Lighting that strengthens animal welfare and productivity throughout the entire pig house

Pig houses are different, and lighting must therefore be adapted to the animal group, production phase, house layout and working conditions.

01

Service and control house

Correct lux level, placement and even distribution are essential. The light must reach the sows at eye level and support clear signs of heat.

02

Gestation house

Even and gentle lighting supports calm conditions for pregnant sows and gives staff a good overview during daily inspections.

03

Farrowing house

Even lighting provides a better overview during inspection, treatment and work around the sow and piglets.

04

Weaner house

A sufficient and even light level helps weaners find feed and water more quickly after weaning.

05

Finisher house

The lighting must give staff a good overview and support activity during the light period as well as calmer conditions during the dark period.

HEAT LIGHT™

Improves reproduction in service and control houses through correct placement of stable lighting

With the right lighting for the sows, better heat is achieved, helping to prevent returns, abortions and empty sows. An increased litter size is also often seen.

Light level 200-400 lux above the sows’ heads
Farrowing rate 2-5% higher
Extra piglet 0.3-1 per litter
Payback time approx. 3 months

With HEAT LIGHT™, the luminaires are installed directly above the sows’ heads, so the sows are illuminated with 200-400 lux. This makes the sows respond as if it were summer all year round, creating measurable improvements in heat, farrowing rate and litter size.

HEAT LIGHT™ for reproduction
and a stable circadian rhythm

Light affects the sows’ circadian rhythm and hormonal response. With correct HEAT LIGHT™, the sows receive 200–400 lux at eye level for 16 hours daily, so light level, placement and rhythm support clearer signs of heat and more stable reproduction.

Light affects hormonal balance

Light is registered through the eyes and affects circadian rhythm and hormone production. During the light period, melatonin is suppressed, while light stimuli support the processes that are important for heat and ovulation. There is a clear difference between day and night.

Designed according to the sows’ position

HEAT LIGHT™ is adapted according to ceiling height, equipment, sow boxes, aisles and luminaire placement, so the light distribution is uniform where the sows actually receive the light.

Fewer dark periods in production

A fixed light period and correct lux level help maintain stable conditions throughout the dark months of the year, when natural daylight is not sufficient.

LED fixtures built for modern pig stables

Moisture, ammonia, dust, temperature fluctuations and high-pressure cleaning place far greater demands on lighting than ordinary industrial environments. That's why RN Solutions works with LED fixtures developed for demanding stable environments.

Lux recommendations

Correct lighting for each zone in the pig house

Our lux recommendations are based on more than 10 years of experience with lighting for pigs — gathered from institutions, advisors, veterinarians and thousands of pig producers.

With the right lighting level, you can:

  • Improve reproduction
  • Increase sow performance as well as growth in young animals
  • Reduce side effects and improve observation conditions
  • Improve the working environment in the house

This often requires:

  • More light output and therefore more light sources
  • Correct placement at the animals’ eye level
  • Even light distribution without shadows and blind spots

The recommendations are indicative and should be adapted to the specific house type, mounting height and production form.

Practical experience

What our customers experience

Better overview in the house

With correctly placed LED lighting, staff get better working light for daily inspections. This makes it easier to detect unrest, signs of illness and differences between pens in time.

More stable heat management

In the service and control house, the correct lux level and a fixed lighting rhythm can support the sows’ heat. This provides better conditions for more uniform reproduction throughout the year.

A robust solution for everyday use

Pig houses place high demands on lighting. That is why many choose a solution that withstands moisture, dust, ammonia and cleaning — while also reducing energy consumption.

White and red light

White light for operation. Red light for calmer periods.

White light is used as daily working and production light. Red light can be used during dark periods, night inspections, moving and loading, where staff need orientation without the same disturbance as with ordinary white light.

White light

Provides overview, working light and supports activity, feed intake and daily supervision during daylight hours.

Red light

Can be used during night inspections and handling, where light is needed for staff without the same impact on the pigs.

Loading and moving

Red light can be used strategically in areas where calmer conditions and clearer light direction are desired during handling.
