Specially developed LED lighting for pig houses

Light That Supports Pig Welfare and Productivity

Pig houses vary, which means the lighting must be adapted to the animal group, production phase, house layout and working conditions.

01

Service and gestation control area

Correct lux levels, placement and even distribution are crucial. The light must reach the sows at eye level and support clear signs of oestrus.

02

Gestation house

Even, gentle light supports calm conditions for pregnant sows and gives staff a good overview during daily inspection.

03

Farrowing house

Even light provides a better overview during inspection, treatment and work around the sow and piglets.

04

Nursery house

A sufficient and even light level helps piglets find feed and water more quickly after weaning.

05

Finishing house

The light must give staff a good overview and support activity during the light period as well as calmer conditions during the dark period.

BRUNST-LYS™

Improves reproduction in
service and gestation control
areas through correct placement
of barn lighting

With the right lighting on the sows, better oestrus is achieved, which helps prevent repeat breeders, miscarriages and empty sows. An increased litter size is also often seen.

Light level 200-400 lux above the sows' heads
Farrowing rate 2-5% higher
Extra piglet 0.3-1 per litter
Payback period approx. 0.4 years

With BRUNST-LYS™, the fixtures are mounted directly above the sows' heads, so the sows are lit with 200-400 lux. This makes the sows behave as if it were summer all year round, creating measurable improvements in oestrus, farrowing rate and litter size.

BRUNSTLYS™ for reproduction
and a stable circadian rhythm

Light affects the sows’ circadian rhythm and hormonal response. With correctly designed BRUNSTLYS™, the sows receive 200–400 lux at eye level for 16 hours per day, ensuring that light level, positioning and lighting schedule support clearer signs of oestrus and more consistent reproductive performance.

Light affects hormonal balance

Light is perceived through the eyes and affects the circadian rhythm and hormone production. During the lighting period, melatonin production is suppressed, while light stimuli support the processes involved in oestrus and ovulation. A clear distinction between day and night is essential.

Designed around
the sows’ position

BRUNSTLYS™ is designed according to ceiling height, pen equipment, sow stalls, walkways and luminaire positioning, ensuring uniform light distribution where the sows actually receive the light.

Fewer periods of insufficient light in production

A fixed lighting period and the correct lux level help maintain consistent conditions throughout the darker months of the year, when natural daylight is insufficient.

Durable LED luminaires

LED fixtures built for
modern pig houses

Moisture, ammonia, dust, temperature fluctuations and high-pressure cleaning place far greater demands on lighting than ordinary industrial environments. That is why RN Solutions works with LED luminaires developed for demanding livestock housing environments.

Experience from practice

What our customers experience

Better overview in the barn

With correctly placed LED lighting, staff get better working light for daily supervision. This makes it easier to detect unrest, signs of illness and differences between pens in time.

More stable oestrus management

In the service and gestation control area, a correct lux level and a fixed light rhythm can support the sows' oestrus. This provides better conditions for more consistent reproduction throughout the year.

Robust solution for everyday use

Pig houses place high demands on lighting. That's why many choose a solution that withstands moisture, dust, ammonia and cleaning – while reducing energy consumption.

White and red light

White light for operation. Red light for calmer periods.

White light is used as daily working and production light. Red light can be used during dark periods, night inspections, moving and loading, where staff need orientation without the same disturbance as ordinary white light.

White light

Provides overview, working light and supports activity, feed intake and daily supervision during daylight hours.

Red light

Can be used during night inspections and handling, where light is needed for staff without the same effect on the pigs.

Loading and moving

Red light can be used strategically in areas where more calm and clearer light direction are desired during handling.
