Specialised LED lighting for pig farms

Light that supports animal welfare and productivity throughout the pig house

Every pig house is different, and lighting must be tailored to the animal group, production stage, housing layout and working conditions.

01

Mating & service unit

Correct lux level, positioning and even light distribution are essential. Light must reach sows at eye level to support clear oestrus signs.

02

Gestation unit

Gentle, even lighting supports calm conditions for pregnant sows and gives staff a clear view during daily inspections.

03

Farrowing unit

Even lighting improves visibility during inspections, treatments and work around the sow and piglets.

04

Weaner unit

Adequate, even light helps weaners find feed and water more quickly after weaning.

05

Finisher unit

Lighting should give staff a clear overview and support activity during the light period and calmer conditions during the dark period.

Operational benefits

The right light has a direct impact on pig house performance

With targeted LED lighting you can ensure the correct lux level in key production areas. This supports oestrus, feed intake, growth rate and gives staff better overview in daily operations.

Recommended light level 200–400 lux in mating and service units
Daily light period 16 hours for oestrus management
Lower energy consumption up to 80% when switching to LED lighting
Long service life up to 88,000 hours with robust LED solutions

The financial return depends on the size of the facility, existing lighting, desired lux level and operating hours. With a correctly dimensioned LED solution, energy consumption can be reduced significantly while the lighting is tailored to each individual section of the pig house.

BRUNSTLYS™ for reproduction
and a stable circadian rhythm

Light affects the circadian rhythm and hormonal response of sows. With correct BRUNSTLYS™, sows receive 200–400 lux at eye level for 16 hours daily, so that light level, positioning and rhythm support clearer oestrus signs and more consistent reproduction.

Light influences hormonal balance

Light is detected through the eyes and affects the circadian rhythm and hormone production. During the light period, melatonin is suppressed, while light stimuli support the processes that influence oestrus and ovulation. The difference between day and night is significant.

Designed around sow positioning

BRUNSTLYS™ is tailored to ceiling height, housing layout, sow stalls, walkways and fixture placement, ensuring even light distribution precisely where the sows actually receive the light.

Fewer dark periods in production

A consistent light period and correct lux level help maintain stable conditions throughout the darker months of the year, when natural daylight is insufficient.

LED luminaires built for modern pig houses

Moisture, ammonia, dust, temperature fluctuations and high-pressure cleaning place far greater demands on lighting than standard industrial environments. That is why RN Solutions works with LED luminaires developed for demanding livestock environments.

Robust LED luminaires for pig houses from RN Solutions

Reliable lighting is about more than watts

Professional livestock lighting is about correct light distribution, stable components, ingress protection and luminaires that last.

01

Standard luminaires rarely last in pig houses

Ammonia, moisture and dust affect electronics, LED chips, reflectors and seals over time.

Pig houses therefore require luminaires that have been developed and tested for livestock environments.

02

IP69K, Flicker Free and coated LED chips

Selected solutions can be supplied with IP69K classification, Flicker Free technology and specially coated LED chips.

This provides better protection against moisture, ammonia and cleaning, as well as stable, flicker-free light in daily operation.

03

Long service life and significant energy savings

LED luminaires from RN Solutions are built for long service life and low operating costs.

A typical energy saving of 50–80% and a service life of 50,000–88,000 hours depending on the solution deliver a fast payback period.

Lux recommendations

The right light for every zone in the pig house

Our lux recommendations are based on more than 10 years of experience with pig house lighting - gathered from research institutions, advisors, veterinarians and thousands of pig producers.

With the right light level you can:

  • Improve reproduction
  • Increase sow performance and growth in young stock
  • Reduce side effects and improve observation conditions
  • Improve the working environment in the pig house

This often requires:

  • Higher light output and therefore more light sources
  • Correct positioning at eye level of the animals
  • Even light distribution without shadows or blind spots

Experience from practice

What our customers experience

Better overview in the pig house

With correctly positioned LED lighting, staff get better working light for daily inspections. This makes it easier to spot restlessness, signs of illness and differences between pens in time.

More consistent oestrus management

In the mating and service unit, the correct lux level and a fixed light rhythm can support oestrus in sows. This creates better conditions for more consistent reproduction throughout the year.

A robust solution for everyday use

Pig houses place high demands on lighting. That is why many producers choose a solution that withstands moisture, dust, ammonia and cleaning — while also reducing energy consumption.

White and red light

White light for operations. Red light for quieter periods.

White light is used as the primary working and production light during the day. Red light can be used during dark periods, night inspections, moving and loading, where staff need orientation without the same level of disturbance as standard white light.

White light

Provides overview, working light and supports activity, feed intake and daily supervision during daytime hours.

Red light

Can be used during night inspections and handling where light is needed for staff without the same impact on the pigs.

Loading and moving

Red light can be used strategically in areas where a calmer environment and clearer light direction are desired during handling.
