Summer is just around the corner: Do you have the right light in your pig house?

Summer is just around the corner: Do you have the right light in your pig house?

The right BRUNSTLYS™ correctly placed in the mating and control section can support estrus, strengthen reproduction and at the same time reduce energy consumption.

As summer approaches, it is an ideal time to evaluate whether your house is ready with the right BRUNSTLYS™ correctly positioned. At RN Solutions, we see BRUNSTLYS™ as an active part of the house’s production setup — not just as lighting, but as a solution that can support estrus, strengthen reproduction, and at the same time reduce energy consumption.

It is not just about light.

BRUNSTLYS™ is not just about more light. It is about the right light correctly positioned.

In the mating and control section, RN Solutions typically recommends 200–400 lux. But lux alone is not enough. If the light is not positioned correctly, you will not achieve the desired effect. It is precisely the interaction between light level and placement that makes BRUNSTLYS™ effective in practice.

When the light level and placement are adapted to the purpose, correct BRUNSTLYS™ can contribute to stronger estrus, fewer returns to estrus, higher pregnancy rates, and fewer wasted feed days. That is why BRUNSTLYS™ is especially relevant right now, as summer approaches and the natural focus is on optimizing the house setup.

BRUNSTLYS™ is lighting with a clear production purpose.

At RN Solutions, we see BRUNSTLYS™ as an active part of the house’s overall production setup. It is not about ordinary lighting, but about using the right light strategically in the mating and control section to support reproduction.

This also makes BRUNSTLYS™ interesting from an economic perspective. It is not only an energy upgrade, but also a solution that can help increase productivity in the house.

For us, it is about combining function, operation, and documented value. When the lighting is well thought out and positioned correctly, you do not just get more light — you get better light.

Placement is just as important as light level.

One of the most important points in working with BRUNSTLYS™ is that a high light level alone is not enough. If the light is not positioned correctly, you will not achieve the desired effect.

This means that the right solution is not only about the choice of luminaire, but also about how the lighting is integrated into the house setup. When light and placement work together, the lighting becomes an active part of production rather than just a passive installation.

This is also where we often see the big difference in practice. The right BRUNSTLYS™ correctly positioned creates more value than simply adding more light.

BRUNSTLYS™ and energy consumption go hand in hand.

Although BRUNSTLYS™ is first and foremost about productivity, energy consumption is still an important part of the equation.

In a specific case from a pig house, 200 existing luminaires with 58 W fluorescent tubes were replaced 1:1 with Farm-Light LED 36 W with Plug'N Play. With an operating time of 14 hours a day, 365 days a year, the annual energy consumption was reduced from 74,095 kWh to 36,792 kWh.

This resulted in annual energy savings of 37,303 kWh, annual savings of DKK 37,303, a reduction of 20,405 kg CO₂, and a simple payback time of 2.75 years.

For us, this underlines an important point: when you work with the right BRUNSTLYS™ correctly positioned, the benefits can be seen both in daily operation and in the overall economy.

That is why it makes sense to act now.

As electricity prices rise, the same kWh savings become more valuable. This makes well-designed LED solutions even more attractive. At the same time, summer is an ideal time to assess whether the house has the right light level, the right placement, and the right solution to support production.

If you want to assess whether your house is ready with the right BRUNSTLYS™, it makes sense to ask yourself whether you have the right light level in the mating and control section, whether the light is correctly positioned where it needs to make a difference, whether you are still using older light sources that consume unnecessary amounts of energy, and whether your current lighting actually supports production — or simply lights up the building.

At RN Solutions, we are happy to help assess whether your current solution supports production optimally.
